In the 2005 film *Initial D*, Akina Pass is the home turf of the Akina SpeedStars, a local street racing group. Itsuki Tachibana, the leader of the SpeedStars and a high school dropout, aspires to be a street racer and works at a gas station with Takumi. The pass gains notoriety when Takeshi Nakazato of the NightKids, driving a Nissan Skyline GT-R VSpec II R32, is beaten in an unofficial race by the AE86. This leads to a formal challenge, and Takumi defeats Takeshi in a downhill race at Akina in front of Ryosuke Takahashi, Itsuki, and members of both the RedSuns and NightKids. Later, Takumi teaches Itsuki how to race a Trueno he has purchased on the same pass. The road is also where Takumi, angered by Seiji Iwaki of the Emperor Team, races and defeats him, causing Seiji to spin out and damage his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR. The pass is central to the film's racing culture, where drivers rely on skill and knowledge of the road.

In Their Own Story

The film opens with Takumi delivering tofu to resorts on Mount Akina in his father's AE86. Street racers Takeshi Nakazato and Ryosuke Takahashi talk about racing each other after defeating competition at Akina. When Takeshi visits a gas station to challenge the racing god of Mt. Akina, Itsuki (with Takumi riding along) arrives to defend that title, but Itsuki is embarrassed and damages his Nissan Silvia. However, Takeshi is later beaten in an unofficial race by the AE86. Takumi defeats Takeshi in a downhill race at Akina in front of Ryosuke, Itsuki, and the other RedSuns and NightKids. Later, Takumi races and defeats Seiji Iwaki on the pass, causing Seiji to spin out. The climax of the film involves a three-way race at Akina between Takumi, Ryosuke, and Kyoichi Sudo of the Emperor Team. Ryosuke and Takumi use the gutter trick to overtake Kyoichi, and Kyoichi's Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III RS flips off the cliffside after swerving from an oncoming car. Takumi ultimately wins the race by overtaking Ryosuke on the last hairpin turn.
